Industrial Materials

Industrial materials in the right wagon, at the right cost per tonne

Cement, clinker, gypsum, chemicals and packaged construction goods behave nothing alike in transit. We choose equipment per commodity — hopper, gondola, covered wagon or container — and combine wagonload and container services so the cost per tonne fits a low-margin product.

Why industrial cargo is harder than it looks

Low value per tonne, mixed packaging and strict weight rules leave very little room for wasted days or rehandling.

Thin margins per tonne

Cement, gypsum and aggregates cannot absorb premium freight. Cost per tonne, not speed alone, decides whether rail works at all.

Mixed packaging

Big bags, pallets, drums and bulk in the same programme. Each needs different securing, and switching between them mid-contract costs money.

Weight and overload rules

Overloaded wagons are stopped and re-worked at the border. Weighing at loading is what keeps the wagon accepted at each frontier.

How we handle industrial materials

One commercial contract covering every leg and every equipment type your programme uses.

Equipment matched to the commodity

Covered hoppers for cement, gondolas for clinker and minerals, box wagons for bagged product and sealed containers where the cargo must not be touched en route.

Consolidation for smaller volumes

Not everything justifies a block train. We consolidate your tonnage into scheduled services, so you keep rail economics without committing to full-train capacity.

Multimodal handover done properly

Where the origin or destination has no rail access, the truck leg is planned with the rail leg from the start: one loading plan, one document set, one point of responsibility.

Transparent landed cost

Freight, terminal handling, border services and any storage are quoted as one landed cost per tonne, so margin is checked before the cargo moves rather than after.

Transport modes for industrial cargo

We pick the mode from the packaging and the annual volume, not from habit.

Wagonload services

Individual wagons or small groups for mixed programmes, consolidated with other cargo on the same corridor so you pay for the tonne you ship.

Containerised industrial goods

Sealed boxes for chemicals, bagged materials and anything needing weather protection or a clean intermodal transfer to truck or vessel.

Block trains for dedicated flows

For plants shipping a steady tonnage on one lane, a dedicated train removes consolidation stops and fixes the transit time week after week.

Cargo and equipment

Industrial materials we move on a repeating basis.

Cement, clinker and gypsum

Covered hoppers or gondolas depending on the product, with dust control and clean-discharge requirements agreed with the receiving plant.

Construction materials

Ceramic tiles, sanitary ware, glass and steel profiles on pallets, loaded with separators and edge protection and, where needed, in containers.

Chemicals and industrial powders

Big bags and drums in sealed equipment with hazard documentation, plus clean-wagon certification whenever the previous load could contaminate.

Packaged and palletised goods

Boxes, crates and machinery parts for factories and distributors, secured against shifting and transferred to truck for the final leg where required.

How a shipment runs

The same four checkpoints every time, whatever the commodity.

  1. 01

    Commodity and route review

We check weight, packaging, hazard status and the receiving plant's discharge capability, then fix the equipment type in writing.

  2. 02

    Consolidation plan

Where volume does not fill a train, we schedule your cargo into the next consolidated service and confirm the cut-off for documents.

  3. 03

    Loading and sealing

Loading is supervised, weights are recorded, and seals are applied and listed on the transport documents before departure.

  4. 04

    Border and intermodal transfer

Customs procedures are prepared in advance, and any transfer to truck or vessel is supervised with a documented handover.

  5. 05

    Delivery confirmation

You receive proof of delivery, weight reconciliation and the signed handover documents in your portal at the end of the run.
